My Eighteen Best Fractals

If you are curious about my esthetic (or lack of it) you may be interested to see which images I think are my best and why. I like complex
structure, organic shapes, symmetry and sumptuous colours. I am fascinated by glimpses into alien worlds we would otherwise never see.
The images are not in order of preference.

contains much variety, being the cross section of a world in upheaval. The energy source at the centre of the sphere is erupting violently, giving rise to structured layers, with bizarre elements at the periphery. I enjoy the yellow ochre, the shading, the contrasting bands and especially the surging energy that is bursting out. It has complexity, dynamism and fine detail, as well as a perfect circle.

shows a glittering and grand opening night at an old-fashioned theatre lit by a candelabrum. What fractal figures will perform on this stage? This image scintillates with light, pulsates with energy and gives an impression of depth. I also like the contrast between the fuzzy shapes and the fine detail.

Tiera4172aa

shows a complex geometry that includes energy-emitting diamonds. I appreciate the richness of texture, its air of mystery, the strong sense of a vertical perspective, and especially the colour contrasts. I like the way that flaming streams of energy illuminate the dull grey vertical features. It makes me think of stepping into an alien world, and a vertiginous one at that.

Tiera4875aa

depicts a richly coloured cornflower in a plowed field of golden corn. I appreciate the fine detail and the way that chaotic shapes resolve to create a familiar and organic form.

is an elegant artefact. It is a source of light that dispels the darkness while maintaining mystery. I like the graceful swirls, the vanishing perspective at the top and the subtle lighting and shadows.

Sterling2_3165aa

is a haunting humanoid that might have pleased Magritte. We can peer into the heart of this being to see worlds within worlds. Although the detail is minute, the overall shape is strong and every bit is connected.

Tiera3921aa

is the eye in the sky watching over all of us. I value its simplicity despite the repetition of forms. Unusually for a fractal, it contains a perfect diamond.

seethes with life. Colourful energy is being generated in the middle, contrasting with the inert metallic structures that fail to contain it. The green is soothing and natural-looking, contrasting with the synthetic-looking copper. Overall, I see a symbiosis of living and mechanical elements. I like the contrast of textures and lighting. It embodies change and creative potential - not mine, the world's. The image shows complexity and chaotic behaviour, just barely held in balance. Contrast is the key to my valuing this fractal.

Sterling2_6401aa

is a baroque wind-up timepiece, possibly used for accessing the past. I love its complexity, intricate structure, whimsical detail and golden components. Despite its great complexity, all the pieces seem to be in balance.

is a filigree piece of jewellery of copper and brass that becomes vanishingly fine in the centre. I like its endless delicacy and the way it floats serenely in space.

portrays a garden oasis in a blue desert, as seen by a frigate bird circling high above. It embodies the archetype of the walled garden, a place of ultimate refuge.

SterlingW1653aa

displays the heraldic power and majesty of a regal eagle. I appreciate the baroque decorations and the strong composition.

Sterling2_8842aa1

conceals multiple faces inside the glowing dome with curved supports, plus a small face above it. The tower of faces and the botanically inspired forms coalesce nicely.

Sterling2_8842aa1

Sterling2_6463aa2

is a mechanical bird with a round tail that is set to soar vertically upwards on golden wings. I like the intricacy of its construction.

Sterling2_6463aa2

Sterling2_5561aa

suggests dragons and their eggs among the scorched dunes. I like the deep orange contrasting with the rich black and the shading, which gives a 3D effect. I like the air of mystery and the pent up energy of the piercing horns.

Sterling2_5561aa

SterlingW2280aa3

has sumptuous and luminous colours, interesting shading and pulsates with energy. It is composed of layers of stars, with super-imposed tendrils. The shading adds to a pronounced 3D effect, although it is a 2D fractal, like all the others on this page. I use it as my desktop background and never get tired of it symmetry and illusion of depth.

Tiera3942aa

is as light and delicate as an ostrich feather. On closer inspection, there are towers of disks, tongues of flame and a molten core that powers the show. I like this one because of its incredible complexity and gracefully swaying form.

ktaza400aa

is perhaps a WWI plane dissolving in turbid waters. There are shadows and the plane is moving, as are the golden nuggets. I like it because of its dynamism and definite shape.
